The Eastern Bluebirds breed in every state east of the Rocky Mountains and winter in southern part of the breeding range and Mexico.

The Eastern Bluebirds head, back, wings, and tail are bright blue. His throat, breast and sides are rusty and the belly is white. They enjoy open woodlands, fields and farmlands with scattered trees.

Bluebirds are mostly insectivores eating insects like grasshoppers, cutworms and flying insects.

They also eat berries in the fall and wintertime.

Bluebirds are very enjoyable to watch and listen to. During the spring courtship it is so fun to watch the male bluebird devoting all his energy luring a female with his song. He will sing and sing while the female sits passively by enjoying his passionate effort.

The female bluebird builds her nest out of dry grass and other plant material around 3 inches deep. The bluebirds clear blue eggs will hatch in 2 weeks and the baby bluebirds will be big enough to leave the nest in 15-20 days. Bluebird pairs will raise 2 or 3 broods of young each season.

To assist the bluebird we need to provide suitable habitats, winter roosts and keep a good food supply available for them using bluebird feeders.
