Hairy Woodpecker is a medium sized woodpecker that is 7 – 10”
long and has a wingspan of 13 - 16” They
give a call that sounds like
a sharp "peek" and
a harsh rattle. |
The Hairy Woodpecker drums very fast, with an abrupt beginning
and end.
The Hairy
Woodpecker
resides
throughout the U.S. and Canada and live in or at the edge of
open woods.
The Hairy
Woodpeckers and Downy Woodpeckers live together throughout most
of their ranges. Hairy Woodpeckers like to spend their time on
the trunk while the Downy Woodpeckers like to use the smaller
branches.
